Results of Options and Choices Workshops

Results were derived from six workshops held within Merced County during the month of October. Participants were challenged to create their own future scenario for Merced County. The challenge included:

  • Reviewing a variety of housing choices available (high density, medium density, low density, very low density)
  • Determining which housing type best fits their lifestyle through the year 2050
  • Using “clickers” (voting devices), to vote for their preferred choice(s) of all NEW future housing developments
  • In groups, participants marked up a Merced County map to show what areas should be protected and designated areas of future land use by type
  • Based on their map, the group then had to explain how their scenario achieves values already established in previous workshops
